Agreement between Iowa and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services
On February 3, 2006 HHS Secretary Mike Leavitt and Governor Tom Vilsack signed a Planning Resolution detailing HHS' and Iowa's shared and independent responsibilities for pandemic planning.
Federal Help for Iowa Planning
Iowa received $1,215,422 in phase one funding from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to use for pandemic planning activities. Iowa received additional funds of $2,439,931 from the revised phase two of Health and Human Services’ local and state allocations. A supplemental $851,583 was awarded to help strengthen the state's capacity to respond to a pandemic influenza outbreak. These grants are based on a formula adjusted for population.
