Can Migratory birds bring highly pathogenic avian influenza H5N1 to North America?

NANCY COX:

Introduction of the bird flu viruses that are circulating in Asia and other parts of the world into the United States in birds does not mean we have a pandemic.  It simply means that we have a -- that same virus that’s causing the problems in other parts of the world in a bird in the United States.  That event certainly will not trigger a pandemic.  We know from many years of experience how to control highly pathogenic avian influenza in this country.
