Director, National Institute of Allergy & Infectious Disease The Department of Health and Human Services has granted one billion dollars worth of contracts to five companies to be able to scale up their capabilities, particularly in making a transition from an egg-based culture system to make virus for vaccine to a cell based, which is much more efficient and has a greater scale up capacity. So the department is jump starting the system to be able to get to that point where you can actually rapidly scale up.
