| | | Dr. Julie L. Gerberding Director, Centers for Disease Control & Prevention You know when we think about preparing for influenza, we have to prepare around the world, because we’re really only as safe as the weakest link in our system. So countries do have to work together and those countries that can’t quickly come up to speed need help from the World Health Organization and the U.S. government and many other partners. Some of our best flu scientists right now are working fulltime at WHO to help their preparedness efforts, but we also help fund some of the WHO programs and when there is an outbreak or an investigation, CDC often loans some of our scientists and our disease detectives to the WHO so that they can have the teams they need to get the job done right.
